Let’s learn how to make it.
This easy Boursin cheese recipe combines butter, cream cheese, herbs, and garlic for a soft, whipped spread that’s absolutely delicious on crackers or crusty bread. Make it ahead of time for entertaining, it firms up beautifully in the fridge and tastes even better the next day.
Ingredients
-
60g butter (softened)
-
150g cream cheese (softened)
-
1 tsp dried chives
-
1 tsp dried dill
-
1 small clove garlic (grated)
-
8–12 twists black pepper (from a mill)
Method
1. Soften the ingredients:
Let the butter and cream cheese sit at room temperature for 30–60 minutes. They should be very soft to the touch, this ensures your cheese mix is smooth and lump-free.
2. Whisk until smooth:
Place the softened butter and cream cheese in a bowl and beat together with an electric whisk until creamy and well combined.
3. Add flavour:
Stir in the chives, dill, grated garlic, and black pepper. Mix well with a spatula until evenly blended.
4. Shape the cheese:
Line a 1-cup measuring cup with a double layer of clingfilm. Spoon in the cheese mixture and press it down firmly to remove air pockets. Flatten the top and cover with a small square of greaseproof paper.
5. Chill to set:
Refrigerate for 1–2 hours, or until firm enough to unmold.
6. Serve:
Turn out your homemade Boursin onto a plate and serve with crackers, fresh bread, or as part of a festive cheese board.
Chef’s Tip
This cheese keeps well in the fridge for up to a week. Try adding a few crushed walnuts or a touch of lemon zest for your own twist. It’s also delicious stirred through hot pasta for a quick, creamy sauce!
