Steamed Broccoli with Lemon & Olive Oil
The right way to steam broccoli so it’s bright, fresh, and full of flavour—not soggy.

This is the easiest way to elevate simple steamed broccoli. It stays vibrant and tender, never mushy, and gets a boost of flavour from good olive oil and fresh lemon juice. Perfect as a quick side for dinner or a light addition to your lunch plate.

Ingredients

  • 1 head of broccoli, cut into florets

  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

  • ½ lemon, juiced

  • Sea salt, to taste

  • Optional: pinch of chili flakes or a few slices of garlic

Method

1. Steam the Broccoli
Set a steamer basket over a pot of boiling water. Add the broccoli florets, cover, and steam for 4–5 minutes until just tender and bright green.

2. Dress and Serve
Transfer the broccoli to a bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and lemon juice, and season with sea salt.
Add a pinch of chili flakes or sliced garlic if you like a little extra kick.

Serve warm or at room temperature.

Serving Notes
This dish is lovely served alongside grilled meats, pasta, or grain bowls. It also works great chilled in a salad with beans, grains, or a simple vinaigrette.
