Let’s learn how to make it.
These Asian rissoles are like meatballs but packed with grated vegetables and spiced with a hint of Chinese five spice. Served with rice and crunchy Asian slaw (with sesame dressing from the bag!), it’s a full plate of flavour for just a few dollars.
Ingredients
For the rissoles:
-
350g–400g mince (I used 50/50 beef and pork)
-
1 carrot, grated
-
1 onion, grated
-
1 egg
-
1 tsp Chinese five spice (not a tablespoon like I said in the video!)
-
⅓ cup breadcrumbs – or use sage & onion stuffing mix like I did
-
Salt and pepper
To serve:
-
Steamed rice
-
1 bag of pre-made Asian slaw (I used New World’s version with sesame dressing)
Method
1. Mix your rissoles:
Grate the carrot and onion and squeeze out any excess liquid. Add to a large bowl with your mince, egg, Chinese five spice, breadcrumbs or stuffing mix, salt and pepper. Use your hands to squish and mix everything until well combined.
2. Shape into balls:
Roll into golf-ball-sized rissoles. You should get about 12–14 from this amount.
3. Cook the rissoles:
Air fry at 190°C for 12–15 minutes until golden and cooked through. Or, pan-fry in a little oil over medium heat for 10–12 minutes, turning to brown evenly.
4. Serve it up:
Serve hot with cooked rice and a generous handful of Asian slaw. Drizzle with the included sesame dressing.
Chef’s Tip:
If you’re short on breadcrumbs, stuffing mix is a great substitute and adds a hit of herby flavour. These rissoles also freeze beautifully — double the batch if you can.
Enjoy
